How start the Sap portal Desktop Rule collection Service?SAP PORTAL 7.2 with SP8

Dear Experts,

I'm facing one issue in Sap Portal 7.2 With SP8 version .

Once i logged into the portal with J2EE_ADMIN user . its displaying one error message like Page not found or not available

as well as  i tried to logged into my user also (my user having all admin rights).its getting same error. not even me its effected to all users.

I went to check the log files its not generate any log files for this error.


Because of we updated the SP level from SP7 to SP8 . during updated time my basis team has deployed EP-RUNTIME.SCA file its happens 1 year back .. last one month on-wards the portal suddenly not working. Page not found or not available error we getting on TLN.


In my system having 2 custom desktop rule collections and one default rule collection .

I m trying to re- take default desktop with below URL:http://<hostname>:<portno>; /irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fadministrator!2fsuper_admin!2fsuper_admi…


I used one more URL to re-take the Default desktop.


in this URL i can able see my Desktop rules .

But here once click on the desktop properties. it couldn't able to open the properties.

i am getting some error. i have attache screen shoots.

i went and check the log files its saying some services it has stopped mode ... How to start the services which services needs to start and where?

could you please tell me its very urgent

what happened to ur CE recently?

Hi Jun,

my CE portal once users logged into portal they can't see TLN and Detail Navigation also .

even J2EE_Admin also not able see and thing.. its getting error "Page not found or not available " .

so. we are using to 2 Custom Rules . in this custom rules we add two different desktops.

We tried to re-take stranded desktop also not coming.

i apply SAP Notes. they are saying remove custom rules .

The custom rules I have reffered are the rules in the Filters tab of
the config file you have attached.

. Please open the config tool, the path should be under:


2.  Naivgate to the "View" menu and check the "Expert Mode"

3.  Under the "cluster-data" menu click on the "template -

4. On the right pane click on the "Filters"

I wanted to ask why these rules are configured in such a way, because
stopping the services there
may be the cause of the issues you are experiencing or you will
experience as a result that the some of the services
are stopped.
Therefore, I recommend if possible to remove all of the custom rules
and see if that resolve the issues, and if this is the case,
consider to leave it that way.


for this scenario how to approach. kindly please help out.
