Getting Data into BW via Function Module from R/3

Hi....

I have some text data in R/3 which can be retrieved via the function module READ_TEXT, by passing the required parameters.

I want to bring the retrieved data into a master data infoobject in BW.

Do I need to write a user-exit, which calls the function module and gets the data into BW?

If so, how would I do that? If anyone have the code and procedure, it would be helpful.

Pls explain.

Thanks,

Sai.

Hi,

READ_TEXT will deliver long text data in the SapScript format (several text lines with formatting information). You need to decide where you want to store the text in BW - there is a length restriction to 60 characters. Depending on that decision you either can enhance an existing DataSource with a user exit or you use a generic Datasource.

There are many posts on generic DataSources in this forum, just search on this subject to get detailed information.

If the text is stored in a table (it probably is) then you can simple create a datasource based on this table.

- Transaction: RSO2 and enter a new datasource name

- Enter the table name as source

- Click on the save-button

- In the menu datasource select function 'generate'.

- Test the datasource with RSA3.

The FM: READ_TEXT will probably not be good as it will return text not in a table form. (I do not know this particular FM).
