Gateway upgrade - FES 6.0

Hello Experts,

We are planning to upgrade to FES 6.0 from our current gateway landscape(SAP_UI - 7.51, SAP_ABAP - 7.50, SAP_BASIS - 7.50, SAP_GWFND - 7.50) No FES installed as of now.

Please share your suggestion on this. (We will be updating the UI components of existing fiori apps).

Should we maintain SAP_ABAP , SAP_BASIS, SAP_GWFND similar to ECC system?

Hi Mathew,

make sure you check the compatibility to FES 6.0 for all the apps you use or intend to use in the SAP Fiori apps reference library. Then I would recommend to upgrade also to NetWeaver 7.52 as only starting with NetWeaver 7.51 the Notifications in the Launchpad are fully supported according to 2775163 - SAP-Fiori-Frontend-Server 6.0 - General Information. But also wait until CW7 because then the SPS01 for SAP_UI 7.54 that contains the next SAPUI5 Long Term Release 1.71 will be released.

What you mean by CW7?

So if I upgrade to FES 6.0 which SAP_UI version it would be? Any idea when 1.71 would be released?

As of now we are not planning to upgrade ECC which having components SAP_ABAP - 7.50, SAP_BASIS - 7.50, SAP_GWFND - 7.50. So it's ok to upgrade gateway components to 7.52?

Should these components should be of same version in Gateway and ECC?

Hi Mathew,

I mean Calender Week 7 of 2020 with CW7.

I've mentioned the SAP_UI Version that includes 1.71.

I guess in the ECC backends you can only upgrade SAP_GWFND to the latest SP. But check the Maintainance Optimizer.

Don't think they have to be exactly the same.

What is your suggestion on upgrading to netweaver 7.53?

Components sap_abap, sap_basis and sap_gwfnd to 7.53? Or should I stick to 7.52 as you mentioned.

Unfortunately there is no NetWeaver 7.53. But check the notes what is required to get a FES 6.0.

Thank you Greg for the info. I have few more queries.

Currently we do not have FES component, we just have SAP_UI 7.51. Do we need to install FES 6.0 or just upgrade SAP_UI component to SAP_UI 7.54?

What are the advantage of installing FES component?

Hi Mathew,

when you read the Note 2217489 - Maintenance and Update Strategy for SAP Fiori Front-End Serve you should understand that FES 6.0 isn't a single software component. It is a Product Version based on AS ABAP (or S4H 1809, S4H 1909) with the installed software components GW_FND and SAP_UI. When you go to System Status -> Product Version Details -> Installed Product Version you will see the currently installed version.

So just to be clear, installing FES 6.0 or individually upgrading component SAP_UI and SAP_GWFND is same?

Just Fiori apps for Basis application would be an additional component, right?

So what would be the best option? individually upgrade the components or wait till CW7 and install FES 6.0?
