We are running HANA DB 2.0 SPS03. Is it possible for us to enable file rotation for backup.log and backint.log?
According to KBA 2797078 - How to configure the size of the HANA Backup files backup.log and backint.log, it seems it only supports as of HANA 2.0 SPS04 onwards.
If it does not support file rotation on HANA 2.0 SPS03, is it okay to clean backup log by following below steps?
1) stop HANA DB
2) delete backup.log and backint.log from OS level.
3) startup HANA DB. <--expect new backup.log/backint.log file will be recreated during HANA startup.
According to below information, is it always safe to delete old backup.log/backint.log?
https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_HANA_PLATFORM/6b94445c94ae495c83a19646e7c3fd56/0af0a0d35728452fa425243...
-----------------------------------
The backup.log and backint.log files record information about backups. This information can be used to diagnose errors.
Tip
As more data is written to backup.log and backint.log, the files grow, but their increased size does not impact database performance. If backup.log or backint.log do become too big for the available disk space, you can safely delete either file as required.
-----------------------------------
Here are the answers:
1. it does not support file rotation for backup.log/backint.log on HANA 2.0 SPS03.
2. The steps to clean backup log are fine.
BTW, it is not mandatory to stop HANA DB before deletion.
3. It is safe to delete old backup.log/backint.log.
Please also note that, SAP HANA Studio reads the information from the backup.log for status and progress information during HANA backup and restore.
