After installing Xcelsius 2008 SP1, Adobe AIR and the Flex SDK on a Windows XP machine, I was able to successfully export an AIR file. However, after this first attempt, Xcelsius no longer generates AIR files. When I choose File>Export>AIR from the menu, after the initial dialogue box, Xcelsius displays the standard message "Generating Swf" and completes the process without generating any error messages. However, when I check the folder I specified for the output, there is no AIR file.
I have tried creating a new XLF file and outputting to different file paths but in each case, Xcelsius appears to complete the export process but doesn't actually generate the AIR file.
I would appreciate any suggestions for what might be the cause of this issue.
Thanks,
Mustafa Bensan.
Hi Mustafa,
I have the same problem. Before I installed SP1, I downloaded the latest version from SAP laps ( afew month ago) and it was possible to geberate a AIR-file. But now I have Installed SP1 it doesn't work anymore. Strange thing is dat sometimes the aire file is succesfully generated. Why? I don't understand. I Hope the people form xcelsius will look at this problem,

Hi Javier,
I am exporting to a local directory and not to a network location. As Michiel has pointed out, this appears to be a random problem. Sometimes a file is generated and sometimes not. I tried this feature immediately after installing SP1 and it worked fine for a couple of times. However, now it does not work at all and there is no indication of any kind of error either. I did not have the Beta version of the AIR export previously installed either. I only started to use this function when it became available as part of SP1.
Please let me know if there is a solution to this problem.
Thanks,
Mustafa.
There are a few other conditions that can cause Export > AIR to fail, but they are rare (certain field strings > 200 characters entered, invalid picture references).

You could check your prerequisites for the platform.
C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius\assets\air\sdkPath.dat
Make sure this file is pointing to the correct Flex 3 SDK directory.
Java 2 Runtime Environment
Perhaps uninstall and/or reinstall your J2RE to the latest. I have 1.6.0_07-b06 and everything works great.
Air Player
Make sure you're using the latest: 1.1.
Hi Javier,
I have implemented your suggestions but Xcelsius still does not generate the AIR file. Specifically the steps I took were as follows:
1) Version 3.0 of the Flex SDK was the version installed on my computer. I installed the latest version, 3.1 and made sure the file path to the root directory of the SDK was specified in the sdkPath.dat file;
2) I uninstalled Java and reinstalled the latest version 1.6.0_07-b06;
3) I uninstalled Adobe AIR 1.0 and installed the new version, AIR 1.1;
Even after the above steps, the AIR Export function does not generate a ".air" file.
In addition to the Flex SDK 3.1 and Adobe AIR 1.1, is it also necessary to download and install the Adobe AIR SDK ?
You have indicated that the AIR export works fine in your environment. Have you been able to consecutively export AIR files after your initial successful export? And to different folders as well?
Thanks,
Mustafa.

No, it's not necessary.

Yes, AIR was one of my testing responsibilities during SP1. I've been using Export > AIR for several months, on several different machines, and in various different Virtual Machines. I just tested now and am still able to create .air applications. I've not had the problem you report. I have heard a few other instances of this, though.
Are you sure you're exporting to the correct directory? I find, sometimes, that the Destination field interface is not very intuitive and sometimes points to the wrong directory.
If it's not too much trouble, can you try uninstalling and reinstalling Xcelsius? If you do, make sure to delete any leftover folders after uninstalling, then restart the machine.
Hi Javier,
Is the "sdkPath.dat" file (in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius\assets\air) generated automatically by Xcelsius upon installation, or is it something we manually create? I can't find such a file in my Xcelsius Assets folder. The menu option "export file to AIR" is greyed out in the application hence I am unable to export to AIR.
Thanks
Michael
It was recently discovered that if the the AIR package must have certain internet connectivity to build successfully. If the machine is firewalled with a restrictive program (ZoneAlarm, for instance) or has no internet connectivity, the AIR package will fail to build.
You might want to check that your computer is allowing traffic to the necessary sites requested by Xcelsius.
Hello Javier, I have a quick question for you.
I checked the prerequisites for the platform to be -
C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius\assets\air\sdkPath.dat
which points to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\3.0
However, when I try to Export to Air, I get the following error -
Xcelsius could not find the Flex Builder 3 SDK. Please do the following:
1. Download the Adobe Flex SDK 3.0
2. Choose the root folder location of the Flex Builder 3 SDK.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\3.0
Would you know if this folder is generated automatically, as I can not find it?

Hi,
When at home, I could generate a .AIR file, whereas I would NOT succeed in generating the exact same AIR file from the office network (with same symptoms as above) - still using exact same laptop/configuration !
I understand that, in order to use a digital certificate during the AIR file creation, one has to connect to geotrust.com, as it was mentionned in a separate thread. And when at home, I have a direct connection to the internet, whereas I have to go through a proxy from the office...
It might then be worth to try the air export from another network location, and perhaps investigate if a setting exists in the Flex SDK to declare a proxy.
Regards,
cm
Hi
I found this link which tell us how to configure to allow proxy setting.
Its working for me.
Hi Mustafa,
Where are you exporting to? Is it a network location? If so, Export > AIR does not currently support outputting to network locations. It can only output to local machine folders.
