Do existing (third party) SAP-adapters work with SAP XI?

Former Member

In the current situation, various applications are connected to SAP via (third party) SAP-adapters.

Now, SAP XI is going to be implemented.

Is it possible to keep using the current adapters, but then connect them to SAP XI rather than directly into SAP?

Hi Bas Van Hengstum,

i can't imagine that it would directly work without adapting to XI. Because your existing adapter do not

talk XI-Protocol so it will not possible that XI would

understand the message you will send to XI. But if your

existing adapter already speak XI-Protocols (this i don't

believe) then it would be able to connect directly to XI

without having to adapted to it.

I think that you have to adapt your existing adapter to speak XI-Protocol first or use the availabe XI-technical

Adatper like file-Adapter, SOAP-Adapter, JMS-Adapter ...

Thanks for your quick response, Ly-Na Phu.

What I actually hoped for, is that existing adapters would be able to interface with the IDoc or RFC adapters, without major changes. I based this on the following:

www.sap.com/denmark/sapdenmark/events/netweaver/XI_20_overview.pdf page 8:

"Integration of existing and new SAP components

Integration of existing customer and 3rd party components"

This doesn´t mean that you can easily keep using your current adapters?

Bas.

Hallo Bas,

maybe you can give us a sample, what kind of SAP Adapters you currently have, then it will be easier to advice.

If your adapters already generate IDocs or BAPIs and can put out the content in XML, than you could just route this calls through XI, as there would not be a need for additional mapping or development. However some configuration steps need to be done to create a routing relation between sender and receiver system.

However you have to be carefull with usage of the name "Adapters". Your exsiting Adapters won't integrate with Xi as XI - adapters, but will rather be integrated to XI by the means of XI adapters such as file, jdbc adapter etc. Therefore they don't need to speak the XI internal communication protocol.

Hi Chistine,

Thanks for your effort so far.

We have the following interfaces with SAP:

- Microsoft Excel

- Oracle Database

- SAP APO and CRM

- IXOS (Archiving)

- TradeXpress EDI

I suppose, most of them work based on either IDocs or RFC's.

Regards,

Bas.
