Hello everyone!
we are installing Solution manager 7.2 (on MSSQL 2012, Windows Server 2016) and were asked to enter the DNS Domain Name to install the ABAP stack via SWPM. I believe based on the research we've made that we still don't have a domain for our Solution Manger. ( I run ipconfig and have DNS suffix empty)
I would like to know what can we do in this case and if there are alternatives to put a random domain name for it and maybe change it later. I also wonder whether it is possible to skip this step and what consequences it has? if not what can we possibly do in this case.
Thanks A lot.
Dear Nour El,
For now you just move on without any domain name or give any domain name e.g <hostname>.testssystem.com
Domain name is not a limiting thing for the installation.
Later, when you get the domain, you can or add or change the domain name with "system Rename" option of SWPM.
Refer note 1233320 for details.

Hi nhachemi,
I was wondering why not you ask your network guy about the current domain. Generally, you will get suggestion to run SWPM for the "System-Rename" option for DNS change. But in-fact this matter can be taken care manually also & in a much more easy way.
In case of change to new domain-name,
Step1:
OS-guy has to propagate the new domain name to the existing IP of the system
Step2:
change of certificates & RFCs if any
Step3:
Change of SAPFQDN in DEFAULT.PFL, because here "System-Rename" would just #hash out the old fqdn & add entry for the new-fqdn.
Change /etc/hosts if you do not have a DNS-resolver system in your organisation
Step4:
Do the changes for your database. Restart you SAP system, & you will find that the new FQDN already came in t-code SMICM. Generally for SAP-Java systems you will need to check the SSL views
Step5:
Any other areas that you used the old FQDN manually, you would need update
Generally you should ask your Network guy & OS-guy about the current DNS before going for installation. For now, if you do not have the details. You can also do the installation as "Local System" option instead of taking FQDN option so in that case case the installation will be a local system installation without FQDN
Thanks,
Kaushik

Hi Nour.
You have to use same SWPM to change the domain FQDN later by chose the domain name changes or follow the blog which help you to change the domain name change from server.org to server.net

Hi nhachemi
You can skip the domain or I am guessing FQDN in your installation screen for now.
You can always add this later.
