Display our own error pages in Portal

Hi,

How can I modify the standard error pages that are displayed when an error occurs in portal?

Or

How can I display my own error pages instead of sap standard error pages?

Where the sap standard error pages are stored in portal?

I have already gone through the link

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/47/1d5a4390524403e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

for Modifying Error Pages but I couldn’t locate the path System Administration ->System Configuration - >Knowledge Management -> Content Management ->Web Page Composer ->Error Pages ->Error Pages.

I want to perform same task as described in this link.

Kindly help.

Regards,

Madhvika Joshi

Hi madhvika,

One way you can modify the standard error msgs is using Custom Error msgs which you can define in the web.xml deployment descriptor of your application.

(/usr/sap/J2E/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-infweb.xml):

Check [custom error pages|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9a/e74d426332bd30e10000000a155106/frameset.htm

]

you can use the first method - Error msgs mapped to error codes. You can create your own static html and write your own customised error msg in that instead of the usual 404 error : Resource not found.

I think the standard error msgs are not stored in portal...not sure though.I think they are defined in the J2EE engine as parameters.Have to chek on that once.

Or probably if u have KM installed then these error msgs can be directed to a file stored in KM and the respective msg can be displayed.....again storing as static html.

Reward points if useful.

Cheers,

Abhishek

P.S: How are you?

Hi

Check out [this|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/44/42c08f81ce2152e10000000a114a6b/content.htm] link. It shows how the portal requests are handled and where the web.xml plays its part.

I m not exactly sure how you can customize the error msgs using KM......i guess its still in the works @ SAP.

However, the easier method i feel as of now is using the web.xml and adding our own little piece of code...essentially adding tags to the deployment descriptor.

Try it if it works

Cheers,

Abhishek.
