Hello BW Experts,
if the dimension is 40% of the fact table. what are the measurs to be taken.
Possible measures would be:
To check whether by splitting the dimension the size of the dimension table decreases
any other measures please suggest.
Thanks,
BWer
hi,
in 'restructuring' the dimension, try to group/assign the characteristics which share the same master data to the same dimension, e.g customer, sold to, ship to; date, month (other than time characteristics 0calday, 0calmonth etc, which assigned automatically by system); characteristics with less master data may in same dimension. hope doing so it will reduce the dimension % significantly.

How big is the InfoCube and the dimension in question?
Is performance an issue? I would not remodel the diemsnion unless current performance is unacceptable, or you are remodeling for other reasons.

Have you built aggregates on the cube and are you compressing the cube regularly?
What DB is being used?
How many characteristics are in the large dimension? If just one, is the large dimension defined as a line item dimension? If more than one Char, is the dimension marked as high cardinality?
Is the characteristic(s) in this dimension used in most of the queries on this cube, or just occasionally?
Hi BWer,
Restructuring the dimensions is the most logical solution. Split the large dimension into smaller logical dimensions.
The other option would be using "line item dimension" but the restriction would that it can hold only 1 characteristic.
