Difference between SAC for Office and Analysis for Office SAC Edition

Hi,

Which is the difference between SAC for Office Add-on and Analysis for Office SAC Edition in terms of functionalities and use cases?

I went through the documentation but I can't see any difference apart that they are 2 different tools, but we can do the same with both tools. Maybe I'm missing something. There is something special that we can do with one but not with the other?

Regards,

Cristina

Hello,

Actually there are three option available. Choice of one over the other depends upon your office version (cloud or desktop), BI licenses (Yes/No), requirement to connect other data sources etc.

SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office via Microsoft store.

SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office :

  • Say you have other data sources (HANA, S4, BW, SAC, BPC....) from where you want to analyze data.
  • You are on desktop version of office (2016, 2019...)
  • you have businessObjects BI licenses that allow use of Analysis for MS Office.

SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office, edition for SAP Analytics Cloud:

  • You are on desktop version of office package (2016, 2019...)
  • You have do not have BusinessObjects BI licenses, though you have SAC in place.
  • You are not required to connect anything other than SAC

Analytics version is skimmed/ lightweight version compared to AFO (in-terms of functions and features). Analytics add-in is more focused towards SAC needs. Beside if AFO comes with additional add-in for Embedded BPC/ EPM. Functionalities catered towards supporting differing planning functions of respective systems.

Feel free to up-vote and accept the answer you find helpful.

Thanks,

Vijayeta

Hello,

I agree with Cristina. There are several options with similar features and sometimes it is difficult to select the right option. In order to understand the differences, I have just attached a summary. I would appreciate your comments.

Cristina - the installation is different; with the add-in you use MS 365 and there's no updates or installation

SAP is investing in the MS365 add-in as the MS technology for Analysis for Office, .NET, is in maintenance mode

Thank you for your answer.

Only the installation is different but the use cases and the functionalities are the same, right? For instance, I can write back into a planning model from both A4O SAC Edition and SAC for Office Add-on and I can analyze/drill-down/filter data in the same way.

Not sure about the formatting. I know A4O allows you to format your reports and maintaind it dynamically when the data is updated. Has SAC for Office this capability or you need to use Excel features to format it? (in this case I assume the format wouldn't be maintained when the data is updated).

Any other thoughts?

Thank you

I don't think the MS add in has all the functionalities that Analysis for Office does. See this blog https://blogs.sap.com/2020/12/22/planning-and-analysis-with-the-add-in-for-microsoft-office-ana105-q... - but SAP is working on it
