Difference between Normal webservice and SICF service


Dear All,

What is the differnce between creating a webservice from SICF(using handler class with IF_HTTP_EXTENSION) and creating a webservice from RFC(from RFC more utility-create webservice - configure in soamanager). Thanks in advance..

I think there is no difference, because webservice from RFC is also creation SICF service

In every scenario where the AS ABAP acts as a web server there is a node in SICF receiving HTTP requests, processing them and sending a response back.

Frameworks based on HTTP, such as RFC-based SOAP web services, OData or even WebDynpro provide an additional layer of abstraction so you do not need to deal with native HTTP programming.

You can of course any time create a "free-style" web service via a class implementing IF_HTTP_EXTENSION from scratch but most of the time it would be reinventing the wheel.
