We have a scenario where i need to load data to ODS first and then do delta loading to cube.what are the steps to do a delta loading.how it is different from full loading. In the infopackage how can we setup delta loading?whether it is to be set up in the update rules?what is noupdate and addition option in updaterules.
Delta loading is when you are not transferring all the data, but just the new additional data. To start the selta loads, you need to first run the initialization. You can do this from the InfoPackage by choosing Initialise Delta process on the Update Tab of the InfoPackage. Once this has run, create another InfoPackage and in the Update Tab, choose Delta Update.
No change has to be made in the update rules, just for enabling the delta functionality.
In the Update rules you can choose whether a particular InfoObject has to be loaded or not. If it is set as addition, the values will pass through to the data target, if non-update, then it will be blocked from loading. In Update rules for loading to an ODS, you also have the option to Overwrite.
Hope this helps...
If you want to do a delta update from ODS to cube, just right click on the ODS and choose an option similar to 'Further Update data'. You will then be asked whether you want to do a full update or initial update, choose 'initial'.
This will initialise your delta. After that you can continue to do delta updates in the same manner.
To automate this, you might want to use process chains also.
To do not need to do anything to uodate rules for delta upload. Update rules are common for both full as well as delta loads. No update simply means 'do not update the data into the cube. Its like a block. Addition is the opposite. It means data must go into the cube.
