DB13 backup to remote disk

Former Member

Hi,

I am running an online backup to disk using DB13 and the disk is a remote drive.

The backup fails with could not read detail log. I've tested the remote drive and it is fine - copied some files into it and it was ok.

I suspect DB13 is not able to recognize the remote drive. Is there anything I need to do to make DB13 see the remote drive?

Thank you.

Hello Daren

As far as I am aware, there is no way that BRTOOLS won't generate log files for a failed job that is triggered from DB13 planning calendar.

You can also find these logs in DB14 and select the type of BR operation that is failed in your case select BRBACKUP from there select the failed logs. Please post them logs, with out finding a error from the logs it will be very hard to analyse, you can also try the options given by Fidel Vales, or suggestion from Imran as well from previous replies.

Hi,

everybody here is guesing and, of couse, providing blinding advices as the OP has not provided any useful information.

I hope he will provide some soon, meanwhile, Venkat, BRTOOLS is not able to READ the log file (that is what the OP mentioned" so it is possible that BRTOOLS does NOT have authorization to read/write the directory where this log is located. Here you have an expample where BRTOOLS may not generate log files, therefore, all your advice may be useless.

It would be way beterr to keep asking the OP to provide data instead of shooting to the sky hoping that one bullet hits. If the OP does not want to help, then bad luck (for him)

HI,

If you want to take backup in a Moblie disk then you have to  take  BACKUP through BRTOOLS as you are using oracle.

Try Brtools it will be done by this...

Hi Daren

if your OS is windows then did you try entering the full path for the remote drive in the initSID.sap for the parameter 'backup_root_dir =//hostname/location'.

Hi,

Lets go slowly and please describe your configuration

My first questions is what OS are you using. How do you start the backup? (os level, DB13)? Have you tried both methods?

You mention that " I've tested the remote drive and it is fine - copied some files into it and it was ok." but the error you seem to get is reading the log file, which is located in another directory, usually $SAPDATA_HOME/sapbackup. Can your read any file in this directory? can you read the file(s) with extension "LOG"?

It would be very, very helpful if you add some more information (help us to help you), adding the log file generated by brbackup,

Hi,

Check this note

Note 651452 - DB13: No action log found for this action

Check BRTools permissions according to SAP NOTE 113747

Also check if <SID>adm has correct umask settings

Check if you are able to run all other jobs like DBCheck, update stats etc. from DB13.

Check if <SID>adm is able to access sapreorg directory.

No log file created and the backup couldn't even start due to the error "could not read detail log"
