Data Modeling Tool

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a data modeling tool that does effective dimensional modeling? It's probably wishful thinking but it would be wonderful if there was something out there that we could use to reverse-engineer our production BW system.

Thanks

Kevin

Hello,

I think that is a good idea to use some modeling tool for BW.

And I do not understand why there is no such tool in SAP BW.

There are only recommendations to use some tool like Visio (it is from ASAP).

But for me better do not use a modeling tool at all than use Visio.

Before BW I was involved in some data warehouse projects

and I used ErWin 3.5 (with data warehouse template).

I tried to find some modeling tools a couple of months ago

that allow to depict complex SAP BW structure, but

I found only add-on for ErWin that called Saphir Data Model

but I couldn't run that tool (because of lack of license).

But I think sales representatives can help you

Try http://www.silwoodtechnology.com

Hope this helps,

Hello,

what i sometimes use are Mind Maps. I like the idea of Mind Mapping and think that a branch in a Mind Map is likewise a Dimension and a Characteristic on that branch is something like a leaf. There ist a special Branch and several Leafs for every key figure. An additional branch can be used for the Navigation Attributes.

On the strength of past experience in Workshops this is a good idea.

When Using the MindManager, you can put the documentation for every branch and leaf into the Mind Map and it is possible to Export that as a set of HTML Files.

Greetings
