dashboard on a ipad or iphone

Dear Gurus,

This is not a repeated question. But this question is for getting a better clarity for displaying the "dashboard" and accessing them using the "ipad" and "iphone".

I have gone through our forum and have got the given below details,

1. Flash is not supported on iphone or ipad.

2. Does SAP have a solution or application from their end to display the dashboard on iphone or ipad ? I am clear about this because in some places "SAP BusinessObjects Explorer" in mentioned that, it has capability to display the dashboard in the ipad or  iphone. When i checked the user guide, of "SAP BusinessObjects Explorer" there is nothing mentioned about the dashboard display in ipad or iphone.

3. We can display only the "WEBI" or "Crystal reports" using the "SAP Mobile BI application" or  "SAP BO mobile" in an ipad or iphone. Is that right?

4. We have many 3rd party tools like like Antiwia or Exxova or Puffin  browser. But i am not sure how good they are and what are their limitations. Also client wants only SAP tools and not 3rd party tools.

5. In year end SAP comes up with tool called BO Design Studio (Zen) using which we will be able to display the dashboard in the ipad or iphone. What is HTML5? is it another application from SAP?

Please help me in bringing the dashboards into ipad or iphone. What tools or application should i depend on? Also in case of displaying the dashboard on an Android phone, do i need to use "SAP Mobile BI application" or  "SAP BO mobile" ?

Please bear with me for too many questions.

Hello there,

Its true flash is not directly supported on iOS platform as of now, however there are tools which take the flash input and render it in the HTML 5 based output.

SAP BO Explorer has dashboard like features and not exactly a dashboard however, it is the analytics and its mobility that would make it more useful to your clients. It can certainly be used on iPhone and iPads but won't render exactly the same features/graphics/functionality of Xcelcius based Dashboards but it is quiet near to that.

Yes SAP BO Mobile can only give you CR and WeBI reports on handhelds but whatever you view will always be static compared to dynamics rendered by a dashboard. However, a plus point here is the refresh capability and data update facility in BO Mobile, so you don't have to worry about the latest data which you can fetch on the fly by click of a button or let the local copy of the report get synced with the latest copy on the server.

To answer your question, yes you are on the right track and to follow up on the current situation on where SAP is for the Dashboard solution on the iOS platform/Mobility you can track the SAP design studio for dashboards project codename as ZEN on the SCN

You might find these links helpful to get started:

I have found it easier to use dashboards on android platforms using a simple SWF viewer but the backend connectivity has had its own issues.

HTML5 is the most simple and standard solution out of this as its not running on flash tech but HTML tech and by replicating dashboard design on HTML5 SAP can cater to multiple platforms in one shot.

Then it would be hardware and browser capability/support for HTML5 that will matter.

So to sum up,  i assume that, its still a thorn to bring the dashboard into the ipad applicances (without using the 3rd party devices). We must wait until the ZEN is made available to users. Is HTML5 application available or we need to wait for it too?

HTML 5 is not an application but a markup language actually the 5th revision of HTML.

Applications based on HTML5 have more user interactivity than its predecessors hence an alternative to the FLASH technology. Another plus point is that HTML tech is platform independent and easily accessible via browsers for mobile handhelds.

And yes if you want an SAP based solution for the Xcelcius Dashboards, I think it would be best to wait for ZEN.

Another option that you can try is the Tableau software.

please be aware that bringing Dashboards to an iPad will be possible very soon without the need of a third-party-tool or a different tool like Design Studio (Zen).

There is some nice information out there, e.g.:

Best regards,
