Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 - ExportToDisk issues(PDF)

I am using the software Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 and trying to run reports from C# applications. I am seeing issues with ExportToDisk method when the input file has a huge volume of data.

For e.g I tried a input file with 2050 records and it throws the error u201CThe request could not be submitted for background processingu201D , I reduced the volume and tested with 2000 records and it worked fine, I tried the report with only remaining 48 records also(suspecting that it might be a data issues specific to those 50records) and it worked fine, but the method(ExportToDisk) is not working with the entire data (2050 records)

I could replicate this issue with 1000+ records also. When I split the input file into two, it works fine. So this issue appears to be volume specific.

Is there any known issue with ExportToDisk method? are there any alternatives for this method? I am looking for some guidance.

I notice from few forums that the above error happens when C:\ has READ ONLY permissions or if there is less space in it. In my case, I have given Full contro to C:\ and it has around 10 GB left.

Hello,

That's not that many records. If you export the report to RPT format how big is the file?

IF you preview the report in the .NET IDE and export from the ActiveX viewer does that work?

Have you applied Service Pack 1 for CR for VS 2008?

Thank you

Don

Thanks for the reply

I am not able to export the report in RPT format either using Export methods. I am not able to view the report using Viewer either.

I have SP1 installed for CR in VS2008

I did more testing and sharing my findings.

My report has 4 subreports grouped in a main report(main report has nothing much to display). I gave an input file such that the 1st subreport has 1000 records, 2nd has 2000 records, 3rd and 4th has zero records and it failed. I deleted 4 th report and it worked fine.

After this I tried to increase the 2nd report size to 2500 and it failed.

I removed 1st, 3rd and 4th and triied with 6000 records in 2nd sub-report and it worked.

I understand that when i reduce the subreports, things work fine. With a single subreport, it always works fine.

Errors seen:

I have seen two error messages when the report fails..Either "Report Server Application Failed " Or "The request could not be submitted for background processing"

Questions

1) are there known issues with using multiple subreports in CR basic 2008 for .NET?

2) Is there any debugging technique available to troubleshoot these errors? A generic error message doesnt help much
