Crystal reports 2020 : The document could not be opened

Hello,

With Crystal reports 2020, last update (but I'vee had the problem since many months), I can't open some rpt files.

1- I open a working report.
2- I make changes.
3- I save and close.
4- The file works well in its environment.
5- I re-open the report: the action is impossible :

To unblock the problem, I open the file with Crystal reports 2013 :

I re-save the document, without modification.
Then I can open with my Crystal reports 2020, modify, save, close and reopen.

There is no particular functionality in the report.
The export of the report definition with CR 2020 and CR 2013 are identical.

The problem seems random.

Do you know why?

Thank you.

I can reproduce the problem.

  1. Create a new report.
  2. Create two formula fields: one returning 'left' and the other returning 'right'.
  3. Place both fields in the body.
  4. Set a different font for the left field and make it BOLD.
  5. Save the report and close it.
  6. Reopen it; it works. Now, use the brush tool to replicate the font and bold formatting from the right field to the left field.
  7. Save it and close it again.
  8. Try reopening it. Boom.

I have the same problem .. waiting for patch.. dont use Brush.

Contacted User to send me their report for testing. Will forward to Vitaly when recieved....

Need more platform details also...

CR is highly dependent on the OS and default printer used while formatting the report.

1. What OS are you using?

2. What is your default printer?

3. Can you change your default printer to a real printer, don't select one of Windows Redirected Printer drivers nor use a third party PDF printer as your default? Install a real printer like an HP Printer if you don't use one. Doesn't matter if you have the printer, just set it to it for testing.

4. Click on File, Page Setup... uncheck No Printer, because CR still uses some Default Printer properties, and check on Dissociate...

Let us know what happens?

Don

Hi, I try your process, I don't reproduce the error. I'm in Patch 9 now.

Great, now that you have resolved the issue I don't need your report... PS - if issues are found always try the latest. So were you using SP 10 and rolled back to SP 9?
