CR 2008 Runtime License

Hi,

I am sure this has been asked many times before but i cannot find a link describing the process of redistributing the runtime engine with my VS2008 web app.

The runtime engine i downloaded and installed asked me for a key???

When we used the merge files in the v11.5R2 version we placed the key in the websetup of the merge file.

Under CR 2008 they recommed using their MSI file instead (makes sense) - but what key does it want and how do you do a silent install in this case?

Hi Gary,

the key for the CR Designer 2008 will do. Please note that a CR Designer lincence includes maximum one additional runtime licence. You should ask by your local SAP sales office about the case you want to install your application (incl. the runtime) more than once.

Thanks for the reply - our current version we use is CR 11.5 and we were able to redistribute the runtime engine only (viewer) - I thought it was the same thing for the CR2008 version of the product?

Hence the big splash on the web site.

Our product only needs the viewer / runtime - no designer.

Also any thoughts on using the silent installer option? Or should we go back to the old way of doing thing by using the MSI merge files?

Thanks

Hi,

With web applications the CR .NET SDK is freely distributable .We can install the CR .NET SDK on as many web servers as it is without additional licensing costs. Our licensing doesnu2019t consider where the .rpt files are stored.

If you are selling this web application that uses the CR .NET SDK then your clients would be required to purchase a copy of Crystal Reports Developer edition.

With Windows applications CR .NET SDK is freely distributable in .NET Windows applications u2013 even when the application is sold to a third party.

For more info regarding license :

This does not answer the fundamental question.

Since there are no merge files to be found (as far as I can tell) how do we redistribute the CR2008 viewer?

Are there any downloads - merge files or msi files to redistribute the viewer.?

Well it looks I finally found the downloads for the CR2008 viewer.

I think that the complexity is finding this is much much higher than it had too..
