Count by Group

Former Member

I have been searching the help files, but can not seem to find the answer.

I am needing to do a record count.... by group.

Example:

Group 1

1 datadata

2 datadata

3 datadata

Group 2

1 datadata

2 datadata

3 datadata

4 datadata

I am trying to get the report to show the count (or line number), but reset on new group. I know I can use a formula as "recordnumber" to show the count, but this is only helpful when there is only one group.

Any suggestions?

Create a running total which counts your records per group.

1. Right-click on Running Totals in the Field Explorer, select new.

2. Choose your field to summarise/count

3. Evaluate for each record

4. Reset on change of group.

That should do it!

Hi Travis B,

This can be done using a running total.

- In running total select a field which is having distinct value.

- Select count

- Resent the count on change of group.

Place this running total in your detail line.

Thanks
