Content Server 7.53/4 Monitoring in the Solution Manager 7.2

Hello,

I already know about the following note, describing the approach on how to connect a Content Server for Monitoring:
https://me.sap.com/notes/1895715

it has an attached PDF that acts as Manual. However some informations are missing in my opinion.

If i look at the process for the CS 6.5, it describes how you can attach a Database to the System, however this is not the case with the 7.53/4 CS. It seems that i am not able to add a Database to the System, so that both are linked together. Of couse the Database can be monitored independently, however it is quiet a hassle. As you have no direct link to the System and the Database if you look things up in the LMDB or you have to plan out the System and the database seperatly in the it Calendar.

I wonder if there is another way of attaching a CS to a Solution Managaer?

Also is it possible to not add them as a system Type "Web Dispatcher" is this is super confusing?

Thanks a lot!

Dear Customer,

More detailed information would be needed to help further, such as what's the issue when adding database to the Content Server 7.53 in LMDB.

As the content server has no its own data supplier. Usually, we create the Content Server by importing the file downloaded from Note 1895715 and importing the DB by outside discovery. After creating the content server system in the LMDB, assign the DB by steps: t-code LMDB->system->System Database->Assign System Database-> select the DB.  It has no need to monitor the content server and its DB separately.

For the query about product type, according to KBA 2489634, SAP Content Server higher vresion is no longer a standalone product and is now part of SAP Netweaver 7.5. Please choose "SAP Netweaver 7.5", rather than "SAP Web Dispatcher".

Best regards,
Vera Jiang

Hi Alessandro, please select "Application Server ABAP" when creating the system. Then choose Product Instance: SAP Netweaver 7.4/7.5: Content Server & Software Component: SAP Content Server 6.4/6.5. See screenshots in KBA 2489634 please.

Hello Vera_Jiang, that would solve the Problem with the Database, but given that the CS is not a true ABAP System, how would you finsih the Configuration of the Managed Systems, as it has no RFC' connections and so on?

Hi, I did test on my solman system. For the high version content server such as 7.53 or 7.54, it's still needed to do the following steps documented in the guide: 1. Select System type Select “Unspecific Standalone Application System” as the system type. 2. Define System Specify the main system properties in the “Define System” step. - Assign a system name – a unique identifier of the new system in the LMDB. - Select the “Others” as the technology type for the system. - Specify the host name of the SAP Content Server system. 3. Define Extended SID Specify an appropriate extended system ID and choose next. An extended system ID is a system-type specific identifier of eight characters that is unique in the SAP Solution Manager. An extended system ID value is automatically proposed so you can accept it. 4. Confirmation Choose Save to create new SAP Content Server system 5. Specify additional system properties In the System Overview add the installation patch of the SAP Content Server system Please choose the system type "Unspecific Standalone Application System". It allows you bypass the RFC steps, and assign DB.

Hello Vera_Jiang, Thank you very much for your input, it worked, that the Databases are now assosiated with the Content Server, in the LMDB Naviagion Tree. However what bothers / baffles me, is the following: When i try to activate the Monitoring for the Content Server i would now expect that all databases are also part of the Managed objects. However it is only the Contentserver itself and the host, for which i can choose Templates. The Dtabases seem not to be part of it, like they would be in an ABAP System for Example. Is that also the case in your Solman System? Thanks a lot!

Hi, please see KBA 2773751 - Technical Monitoring Hierarchy differs for some specific Technical System types. For the system types of UNSPAPP, it needs to setup the DB template separately. Thank you..

Hello Vera_Jiang

thank you for replying!

I understand that you have to create the System in the LMDB. However if i create it as a Web Dispatcher, as the tutorial in note https://me.sap.com/notes/1895715 suggests,

The system will look as follows:

i do not see any posibility to add a Database as System Database.

Would i have to use a different System type? did i miss something?

Thank you very much!
