Connecting to Linux VM for HANA DB installation

Hi Experts,

We have a Linux VM created on Azure, where we are targeting to install HANA Platform Edition 2.0

We have done this for on-premise set-ups but we get Linux GUI to proceed on same. On Azure, we are unable to get Graphical interface for Linux VM and hence we are stuck on the part where to download HANA DB media on Linux. We have gone through KBAs 1944799, 2684254 and few more but unable to get the answer for this query.

Can you please help via some article/help page on how to obtain a GUI of Linux VM? We are using SUSE Linux SLES 15 SP4 for our work.

Regards,

Bhavya

Hi Garg,

Hope your requirement is to install Standalone HANA Database in Azure VM running SUSE Linux OS.

Short steps:

1) Once you purchased Azure VM with SUSE OS, Configure LVM via Putty/MobaXterm and kept all partitions ready (/hana, /sapmnt, /usr/sap). If you want to enable Web Console, Install GNOME Desktop, xRDP then enable VNC Remote login. Change Default startup window Manager to use GNOME. It will launch GUI once VM rebooted. Make sure to check whether Azure VM IP accessible from your Own PC. Else, use Windows VM (Jump Server) whichever hosted within Azure VM Firewall Network.

2) You can use Firefox browser to download HANA Database packages from SAP Software download center. If no firewall configured/Jump server(Windows VM)configured/Direct Access to Azure VM possible from your other on-Premise VMs, you can use scp command and directly move software files to Azure VM directory - Example: /hana/HANASPSpackage.

3) You can simply run hdblcm os level commands to install HANA Database instead of hdblcmgui. If you need GUI - Graphical User Interface, You can use OpenText Exceed/X11 forwarding and set display output on Jump Server(Windows VM - MobaXterm,Putty) hosted within linux VM firewall network. IP should be accessible from Linux VM. If you didn't have Windows VM OR no firewall maintained with open IP, you can use your Own PC MobaXterm/Putty to set display variable (your PC IP) and launch hdblcmgui.

Hope it will help for your requirement !
