Connect one SAP BW system to multiple R/3 systems

Hi All,

Has anyone done a connection of one SAP BW system to multiple SAP R/3 systems. I know it is theretically possible, but please let me know if anybody has experience of doing it. Our scenario is that take HR data from one R/3 system and other modules data from another R/3 system.

Also please let me know the steps of connecting the systems, the do's and dont's and any special config that needs to be done.

Also what are the risks?

hello,

if different source systems are connected to single source system will there be any overlapping of infoobjects at the time of installing in bi content?

for example i am using 0comp_code in real estate application component from one source system and it is activated in bi

now if iam again using the 0comp_code for finance payments application component from another source sytem will this effect the 0comp_code in real estate application component when i am processing the step installation from bi content

the objects inthe another application component of different source systems will be revised??

Hello,

after you connected the new source system, there are some additional steps to do. But this is common for all new source systems:

-> Set conversion of source system names in RSA1. This is necessary for Transport of Objects in BW. Go to RSA1->Tools->Conversion of Logical System Names

-> Set Assignment of Source System to Source System ID. You also find this under RSA1-> Tools. This is only important if you use a Source system ID like in IO 0SOURSYSTEM.

-> Replicate Application Component Structure of DataSources. Therefore go to DataSources. Select your Source System (If you are on BI 7.0) and go to the Header, right click you mouse and replicate Tree Metadata and then replicate DataSource.

Just a clarification, once I replicate from the respective source systems, will the datasources automatically point to that system.

I ask this question because at this moment, all the datasources are pointing to one R/3 system. Now, if I create the second source system and replicate selected datsources (like the HR datasources), will they point to the second system automatically?

DataSource is always connected to the source system.

Hi,

Please note that datasources exist in source system. Therefore when we replicate them in BI, we are only seeing the image of this source system's datasource. The same datasource would exist in multiple source systems and when you replicate them they would appear under these source system. If a particular datasource is active in 2 source systems, it would appear under both of them. It all depends on your requirement as to from which source system you would like to pull data for this datasource.

This can be done. All you need to do is set up the RFC connection between BI and the different source systems and then create the source system in BI system. Next replicate all the datasources from these systems and you are ready with loading the data from multiple systems. Also, see below link

you can connect as many R/3 systems as you want to the same BW system, this will pose no problem. The only trick is when you load eg the same master data, you need to make sure you load the dominant system as last one, or you need to have a notion of the source system in your master data. the same goes for transactional data (doc range can be overlapping in two different systems)

however, in your case you load different apllication from different systems, so no problem there. having a seperate R/3 HR system is common practice...never encountered any problem with this.
