CMC Sessions

Good morning all,

This is one of my first posts in this Forum so apologies if it is in the wrong place.

I have just taken the next steps with Crystal Reports and have used the BO Central Management Console (CMC) to access the reports via a web browser.

One thing I have noticed, when using a browser, is that a sessions is created for every instance. For example if a report is run which has certain parameter prompts; if a user were to open the report, close the browser, and open another with different parameters then that user would have two sessions.

The obvious thing would be to get the user to go back into the parameters and re-select what they would like; unfortunately this is not something that is guaranteed and we just simply don't have enough licenses to allow people to take up more than 1 unnecessarily.

Is there a way to select how many sessions 1 user can have?

At least for us (SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.3 Support Pack 3 Patch 3 Version: 14.3.3.4562), I believe the maximum number of sessions a user can have in CMC or OpenDocument is ten within 20 minutes. Apache Tomcat sets the 20 minutes, so adjusting this will affect the entire system, not just OpenDocument.

In SAP BusinessObjects, the OpenDocument feature utilizes the platform's session management to handle user authentication and document access. By default, user sessions in BusinessObjects are configured to expire after 20 minutes of inactivity. This timeout setting is consistent across various components, including OpenDocument.

Session Timeout Configuration:

  • Default Timeout: 20 minutes of inactivity.
  • Configuration File: The session timeout can be adjusted in the web.xml file of the respective web application.
  • File Location: Typically found at C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\InfoViewApp\WEB-INF\web.xml.

We haven't figured out a way to extend max sessions, as we don't want to change the 20-minute timeout session default.
