Clustered Portal Install

Hello,

In building a new ep6.0 sp2 unix clustered portal. Is it best to install the primary portal node and patch it fully BEFORE installing the cluster nodes? Or should the clustered nodes be installed and then the patches applied across the cluster.

Thanks.

It really is a preference with respect to the order. Personally, I like to fully install the central instance and then install the dialog instances. In this manner, you do not have to worry about patch application to all of the instances.

The downside is that you don't get the experience of applying the patches in a clustered environment.

One addition remark regarding this topic, after you have the full cluster you have to:

1. Upgrade the J2EE Patch Level to the most updated one, on all machines of the cluster.

2. Install the last Portal Patch (currently Patch 5) only on the centeral instance, all other instances in the cluster will be synchronized automatically after retsart the whole engine\cluster.

Hope this will help you,

Thanks .... in fact I'll be following the path that avoids installation of patches (for now!) across the cluster.
