Changes on existing Workfow (ECC)

Hello Workflow experts,

I have made changes on an existing Workflow working on Prod and I have created a new version of it. There are processes running on the old version. My question is: How can I make them run on the new created version ?

As soon as I continued running the task, I´m getting an error.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello @Thierry_twist

To my knowledge you can't. Workflows started in production before the change will continue with the old version. Only workflow started after the change will run with the new version.

I think there is no way around that. Otherwise it would be all but impossible to keep workflow data consistent.

Hi Dominik,

thanks for your prompt answer. So there is no possibility to update the tree structure of a running workflow, using like a function module , right ?
I was not able to make it run with the new version so far.

kind regards,

Thierry

Hello @Thierry_twist

You can't update a structure of a running workflow as far as I know. I'm not aware of any method to do that.

I'd also strongly discourage any such attempts as they are very likely to result in inconsistent workflow data.

What is the problem with keeping with SAP standard - introduce a new version for future workflow instances and let the already running ones finish with the existing version?

Best regards

Hello @Dominik,

there is no problem keeping with SAP standard. Since I´m new in this topic I was just a bit curious about that and was beating around the bush. But it is fine, make sense for data consistency. thanks!
