Cannot create new DB, SQL Anywhere 12

Former Member

Hi Community,

We have installed Sybase SQL AnyWhere_12.0.1 on windows 2008 server. After installing SQL Anywhere, when we try to create a database we are getting below error message.

"A new local server cannot be started because you are running a client-only installation of SQL Anywhere".

Also under installation location folder, files dbsrv and dbeng exe's are missing.

Note: We run the SQL Anywhere setup file as administrator.

Please suggest on what might be wrong.

Thanks, Narasimha.

Narasimha,

You likely used the incorrect registration key to complete the installation, if the server executables are missing this indicates only the client software was installed. Did you receive more than one license key when you bought the software? If so, you should try using the one of the other ones.

Thanks Mikel for the response.

There is another key that I got with the package. To update the license key, should I reinstall SQL Anywhere or is there a way to try with other key?

Regards Narasimha

You should rerun the installer in order to add the server components with the other key. There is no need to uninstall what you have now.
