Hi,

In my projecect i received complaint from my client is that BW database is growing at an unprecedented speed. As per our analysis by using DB02, we found following places, we need to focuus more to take action on this situation

1) /BIC/B0000259000

8ZSAL_AO1_AA

CHANGELOG

337 231 872

337 231 872

2) /BIC/B0001141000

PSA

136 868 864

474 100 736

3) /BIC/B0000138000

8ZISA_O02_AA

CHANGELOG

116 229 120

590 329 856

4) /BIC/B0001140000

CHANGELOG

5) /BIC/AZSDO1400

ZSDO14

ODS

100 457 472

801 486 848

With the reference of above data, i need few clarifications.

1) What is the best Practice to delede the data from PSA? How to perform the deletion of data from PSA? (Point# 2 above)

2) Can we allowed to deleted the Changelogs from ODS? If yes, what is the Best Practice to follow? (Points# 1,3,4)

3) If Specific ODS size is keep on increasing, what is the required action? Do we need to increase Table space? (Point Number 5 above)

Please help me to take action on these issues.

Best regards,

Venkata Challapalli.

For point 5 - you should consider archiving data out of your DSO.

As for PSA and changelog :

PSA can be deleted regularly - usually once a fortnight - this can be done through the process chain or done through SE14.

Changelog - this is a little bit tricky - once changelog is deleted - repeat delta from DSO to cube for the requests deleted from DSO cannot be done - hence this is to be done carefully.

DSO Size - archive the Data in the DSO.

1) What is the best Practice to delede the data from PSA? How to perform the deletion of data from PSA? (Point# 2 above)

Best Practice is to design and run a process chain to delete PSA's, i.e., For tanasaction and Master data delete older than 30 and 7 days respectively.

2) Can we allowed to deleted the Changelogs from ODS? If yes, what is the Best Practice to follow? (Points# 1,3,4)

Yes, Run SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES, SAP_UPDATE_DBDIFF or RSDDTMPTAB_CLEANUP depending on the situation to clean obsolete temporary entries.(449891 Temporary database objects in BW 3.x)

3) If Specific ODS size is keep on increasing, what is the required action? Do we need to increase Table space? (Point Number 5 above)

I am not very sure about it.

hope it helps,

Hi,

Can you please give more details of Changelog deletion?

After executing Programs: SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES, SAP_UPDATE_DBDIFF or Function Module: RSDDTMPTAB_CLEANUP for specific ODS table, do we need to take any extra measures? After executing these Programs, delta functionality will work normally?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Venkata.

While executing these programs make sure that no extraction process/process chains are running, since temp tables are deleted which trigger failure of load. There will be no effect on the Delta Functionality.

Hope it helps,
