BW archiving

Is BW archiving normally done by the system BW Admin? We are trying to determine if this task should be done by the R/3 Archive administrator or BW Admin. Anyone have any recommendations or best practices on this topic?

Hi Allen,

It would need to be done in Co-ordination between the BW Admin and BASIS(Archive expert). The BW Admin needs to decide on the parameters like the Fiscal year, etc..and the BASIS to copy those files on to a Tape drive/CD for safe copy and easy retrieval.

It also depends on the backup policy for the entire landscape. The acrhiving will also go hand in hand with the same.

BW Archiving is done to improve system performance.

For example archiving decreases the query spend-time or the time query needs to do the look-up in the database. This results is faster processing and lessen system load.

This is one of the reasons that i can think of but refer to SAP Service Marketplace document.
