Hello all,
According to: http://scn.sap.com/thread/1479141# it says
All BEx products, including BEx Query Designer, are now in maintenance mode. They will no longer be enhanced and will not be supported beyond 2016.
Given that this is the case, there still seems to be a push that people create universes on queries generated
from BEX query.
What is the customer supposed to do in 2016? Rewrite queries to just work with BW items - cubes, etc? Would it
be better to do this now since 2016 is around the corner?
TIA
Casey,
You don't have change anything in the back-end. The SAP Query and BW Cube can stay as is, all you have do is start using the BOBJ version of the tools.
SAP BI Tools: Analyzer and Report Designer are being replaced by Analysis for MS Excel. The most current version is 1.3, it has a fucntion to convert you BEx workbooks to Analysis workbook. This require NO re-write of existing BEx Explorer workbooks.
SAP Web Application Designer is going to be replaced by SAP Zen/BusinessObjects Design Studio, the GA version 1.0 is coming in Nov 2012.
You have well over 3+ years to convert and learn the new tools.

Above you said:

My understanding was that the BEX Query Designer was the tool that created queries to be used against BW. Each BW Query had a technical name. For example, one would enter this name (of a query) in the tool RSRT. The technical name is created when creating a query using the BEX Query Designer.
Might I inquire what the BOBJ tool would be the equivalent to the BEX Query Designer? It was also my understanding that one would use the BEX Query Designer for query development first (and use the BOBJ approach second) because the query created by BEX Query Designer allowed for more functionality than a query created with the BOBJ tool(s).
Casey,
Current the BEx Designer is still used to create the query at this point, SAP does not have fully working tool to replace this tool at this time, they are testing something in SAP Labs but not ready. I would agree that BEx Analyzer current has some advanced functions than Analysis for MS Office may not have but the gap is being greatly reduced. This is why SAP has give almost 4ys to phase out the tool. The Analysis for MS Office is only been out about 1yr but the tool has matured greatly. The gap between BEx and Analysis for MS Office should be caught up by mid next year.

Hope this provided you the help you needed.
