BI Platform Connections Fail in Distributed Environment

Former Member

Hey Folks,

Looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. We have our Development BOBJ system split out according to processing and web tiers:

Server1 - Processing tier (SIA and CMC are here)

Server2 - Web Tier - Tomcat is here.

We are using the Design Studio and when attempting to build a connection to our backend BOBJ system. However, unlike say Analysis Office, we do not have a spot to specific a system string (system1:6401). As a result, the connection from design studio fails as it attempts to find the CMC on the web tier (system2:6400). Since the design studio only allows you to build HANA connections manually and store them, we're a bit stuck as to how to make this work.

Has  anyone solved this before? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Tim

Under dsws.properties file, put the correct cms name of host where cms is running and then you should be able to login.

Once you login into Design studio client tool, Go to tools>Application design and check the startup mode for the design studio client.

Change it to SAP Business Objects BI Platform and restart the client tool and check.

Design studio uses webservices to log in, deployed on web application server.

So, you can also check the cms name in dsws.properties  file inside /webapps/<dswsbobje>/Web-INF/classes

HI Tim,

Looks like a Firewall issue. Could you verify if you have implemented the Static port and they are opened bi directionally across the node.

Best way is to telnet the ports. Mostly in Distributed environments where firewall is implemented these issues are common.

Hi Tim ,

Design Studio addin for BI Platform must be installed on the Web server .we should use Web server to access DS.

What is the error you are getting ?

If you are looking for webservice URL , below is the syntax . default port will be 8080

http://weserver name:8080/dswsbobje/services/Session

Hi Tim,

As Sateesh Kumar mentioned, you need to login to "BI platform" mode if you want the Design Studio content/applications to be uploaded on BI platform. You will have to enter the webservice URL as below (assuming that Tomcat is running on port 8080)

http://weserver name:8080/dswsbobje/services/Session

Also, you need to have "SAP BO Design Studio for BIP" add-on installed if you want to connect your Design Studio to BI Platform.

Let us know the error you are getting ?

Monish
