Hi all ,

I am new to SEM.

Could you tell me

1) if there's any difference between Bi integeraed planning and SEM-BPS ?

2) if so, what are those differences ? & which one is better suited to planning needs ?.

3) also can we use planning areas developed in bw-bps ???

Friends if you have any documentation for the practical part of SEM-bps

could you please send it to nidhi_dashora@rediffmail.com

thanks in advance

Yes

In BI we will use real cube will be useful for both plan and actual data.

In SEM-BPS we create separate Transactional Cube for plan data.

There are other differences in planning objects. Like Planning Level is called as Aggregates. Package As Filter. In BPS We use Layout Builder for both Input And Outputs of Layouts as in BI BEx is used. There is no planning Area object in BI.

3) also can we use planning areas developed in bw-bps ???

Explained in 2nd Point.

Hello together,

BI-IP is under contruction and wil be replaced later instead of BW-BPS. For the mean time BW-BPS will exist parallel.

Further details see here: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b87271fb-0701-0010-00bd-b03...

This is the theorie. In the praxis there are big differences and BI-IP is in a "very eraly stage", you should have at least SP 10, better wait for 12 to able to have at least the most important functionalities in BI-IP.

e. g. you can not plan on hierarchy nodes (e. g. you dont have standard distribute function to distribute from # in a query). This is available from SP12. And so on....

Eckhard gave very good suggestions regarding minimum SP10. SP 12 is where totals and hierarchy planning is available, necessary for top down planning.

BI-IP is only available as of NW04S / BI 7.0. In BI 7.0 you have a choice of SEM-BPS 6.0 (if you installed the SEM addon for CPM, BCS, etc.), BW-BPS on BI 7.0 or BI-IP on BI 7.0. If you are on BW 3.5 your choice are SEM-BPS 4.0 or BW-BPS 3.5 which is really just a subset of SEM-BPS with 10 less planning functions. If you are lower than BW 3.5, your only choice is upgrade to BW 3.5 or NW04s or be using SEM-BPS 3.1-3.5 on BW 3.0-3.3.

BPS is not longer being developed and are in support mode now similar to EC-CS in R/3 status a few years ago since the development team is working on SEM-BCS only.

Since you are new, can I suggest a very powerful function called search? There have been a number of discussions in the past about difference between BPS and BI-IP.

Hi Nidhi,

There are few features of SEM BPS:

Integration of master and transactional data

Excel integration

Access to plan data via web

Integration to operational systems via retractors

Process monitoring

Reporting and analysis in SAP BW

And for SAP BW:

Additional features Status and Tracking Monitor

Miscellaneous enhancements

Statistical Forecast

Exit Class for customer enhancements in Web Interface Builder

Enhancements for characteristic combinations

Predefined totals in rows and columns

Variables in Data Slides
