Hi Priyanka,

Here are the supporting comments based on SAP Note : 1611185

Nearly all variables can be used, however some restrictions exists:

  • Variable Types
For Selection Option variables you cannot enter complex selections, only intervals are supported here.

  • Usage of  Variables
Avoid using input enabled Variables which are used only in Exceptions. Exceptions are not evaluated, and therefore a prompt with no effect will appear.

  • Special Considerations for Variables
To get the possible dimensions / attributes in the query Panel, the BEx Query needs to get instantiated. For this step mandatory variables with no default values are filled automatically by the system with random values. In certain situation the automatic assignment of default values will fail (e.g. Check routine implemented in customer exit
variables). Please refer also to note 1436769 for a comprehensive list of
    problems.

Validate the Bex variable by executing it in Analyzer or thru portal and if you are facing the same error then do the necessary changes in BW/BEx query.

Thanks,

Jothi

Priyanka,

that error shouldn' happen however SP04 was an old SP level, many corrections and improvements have been done in the meantime (we are now in SP08 and SP09 will be released in weeks)

you should please create a new thread specifying the patch level you are on and the workflow that leads to the error

thanks

Hi Jothi,

There are no filters applied on navigational attributes, there is only one optional variable on employee.

Thanks&Regards,

Krishna

Hi,

Can you remove the variable and drag back, save the query and rerun?.

Specify a value for the prompt, even it is optional?. Is it an Auth variable?.

Thanks,

Jothi

Hi Hari,

Did you find the root cause for this issue?

I have the same issue, where some Bex Characteristic variables , especially char variables infoobjects with masterdata  (attributes and/or hierarchies) throw errors in webis using BICS connectivity.

Hi Abhiman,

I tried to use the Bex query without mandatory variables, customer exit and user exit variables, by avoiding this I could achieve. Please go through the sap note_0001611185.

Thanks&Regards,

Krishna

Hello Hari,

do you see it only with queries that contain variables or also with queries that do not contain variables ?

Any issues with another product like Analysis Office or BEx Analyzer or Crystal Reports ?

thanks

Ingo

This is happening only for this Query. For other queries with variables its working fine.

Thanks&Regards,
