ATC Central Remote Server - Roadmap

Hi fellow developers,

I have a question on the ATC Roadmap in the scenario of a Central Remote Check Setup.

A minumum of NW 7.51/7.52 is required when we must use it for remote checks for say an S/4HANA Readiness assesment. If we look at the roadmap for NW 7.52, its standard support is till the year 2027 after which S/4 Foundation is the successor. However, S/4 Foundation can only be used in conjuction with a license like S/4HANA.

So my question is, what is the future of the ATC as a remote stand alone system? Are we supposed to move to ATC on BTP if we want such a setup? Or merge it with a system which has S/4HANA?

@OlgaDolinskaja  / @thomas_jung your views would be appreciated here.

Hi John,

yes, as you correctly noticed the successor for the SAP NetWeaver 7.52 for the central ATC system on-premise is the SAP S/4HANA (Foundation). It is also essential to use the newer release on-premise as a central ATC system since the amount of new S/4HANA systems grows constantly in customers landscapes and a central ATC on-premise can check the systems only of the same or lower releases. You can upgrade your central ATC system from SAP NetWeaver to SAP S/4HANA (Foundation) by retaining all your ATC settings, ATC runs and ATC exemptions.

We currently recommend ATC on SAP BTP for the management of the modern SAP S/4HANA-based landscapes (Private Cloud and on-premise). Currently there are some limitations (for example baseline and parallel ATC runs are not yet supported), in addition not all SAP GUI ATC features can of course be recreated, so the functional scope looks currently as described in the blog (+ ATC features which will be delivered during 2024, like baseline): Usage of ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) in the cloud for on-premise developments. Currently there is no migration path from ATC on-premise to ATC on BTP, you need to start from scratch with ATC on SAP BTP, but some topics are already planned, like migration of ATC exemptions from on-premise ATC system to the ATC on SAP BTP is already in our development backlog.

Furthermore the ATC on SAP BTP is becoming currently more and more important since it has many advantages like using the CVA security checks without an additional license, no on-premise system needs to be set up and maintained, the new ATC features are delivered faster on SAP BTP,  upgrades are carried out by SAP on regular base and so on. Further ATC developments and optimizations will be delivered primarily for ATC on SAP BTP.

Kind Regards,
