I am frequently running into the following problems in terms of usability with Datasphere:
1) Slowness of the interface
The workflow Save -> Data preview -> implement -> jump to Data Builder is slow to the point where I find myself looking to do other things between clicks. I know it is Cloud but it is slow compared to other cloud products too. And there is a big difference between a 2 second wait or a 5+ second wait between clicks.
2) Different state of views / problematic caching
It happens constantly that a change in an underlying view / table is not reflected in views / models on top. I find myself constantly reloading the tab, reimplementing or even closing the tab and reopening it. I find myself second guessing if I made a mistake after all until after the third reload or so, the change is finally there. This eats up a lot of time. And you simply do not know if the current view you are working in has up to date info from underlying view or not.
3) Things like sorting and filtering and level of navigation are not remembered.
I always want to filter by last change. I always want to hide shared objects. But I always have to change those settings. When I'm working in a folder, I want to stay in that folder but I am always dropped back to the root folder. These are just a few examples where I have to redo the same settings over and over.
4) Poor error messages
Error messages are essential for finding mistakes but often times Datasphere error messages are cryptic or even misleading.
All of these issues combined cause an immense slowdown in my workflow that stands in the way to really make Datasphere shine for me. I personally would advice the management to prioritise usability features as they are needed.
Am I alone here or do others experience the same issues?
You are not alone. It gets better over time. If you had been there at the beginning, you would appreciate the current state more 😁
