Hi Friends

I have once question

When compression increases the performance why do most of the cubes with aggregates are not compressed.

Is there any disadvantage of compressing all the requests.

Hi!!

Once you compress the data in an InfoCube the compressed data can no longer be deleted from the InfoCube using its request IDs.After compression Request ID set to 0.

Do this when you must be absolutely certain that the data loaded into the InfoCube is correct.

This is the reason we do compression for a historical (old data )data for better performance.

Hi Vijay,

The disadvantage of compressing is that it takes away the request number, so you cannot delete data by request. say the laod on 04/19/2005 was incorrect, but if you have compressed, you can not simply select the request and delete. Compression takes away the request numbers, so then you need to delete using selective delete option. Also sometimes if there is an error in the report data and you need to trace back when it was loaded, and you lose this info when compressing.

That's why the recommendation is to compress older requests, where you know that the data is okay, and you will not have to delete them. For some applications it could be compress requests that are 10 days old, for some it could be a month or more..just depends.

Hope this helps...
