A new version of a whitepaper has been published that covers SAP Landscape Management (LaMa) to manage SAP systems in Microsoft Azure. The whitepaper was jointly written by SAP and Microsoft and highlights how LaMa together with the Microsoft Azure connector, provides extensive automation capabilities intended to simplify the configuration, provisioning, monitoring, and management of SAP applications/systems and associated non-SAP applications and services.

The Microsoft Azure Connector (also called Azure Cloud Manager) for LaMa adds the following functionality:

  • Start/Stop Virtual Machine

  • Virtual Machine Discovery

  • Relocate (Linux) – Windows support is in pilot (SAP Note 3058495)

  • Azure Template Deployment

  • Virtual Machine destruction

  • Virtual Machine Activate/Deactivate (Power Off -- includes de-allocation)

  • Virtual Machine Discovery (Disk Type: Managed Disks)

  • SAP System Copy (Source VM: Linux/Windows; Target VM: Pre-existing VM or Azure Template Deployment)

  • SAP System Clone (Source VM: Linux/Windows; Target VM: Pre-existing VM or Azure Template Deployment)

  • SAP System Refresh (Linux/Windows)

  • Switch Azure Managed Disks from Ultra/Premium to Standard during Snoozing for cost saving

  • Support for Azure Netapp Files (ANF) as NFS solution

  • Cross Azure Subscription System Copy supported (within same Azure Region)

  • Cross Azure Availability Zone System Copy supported (within same Azure Region)
