Overview

This blog post is part of a series where we will be looking at a few simple use cases and basics when using SAP BW bridge for SAP Datasphere. The purpose of this series is for you to have a walkthrough of how SAP BW bridge, SAP Datasphere, and SAP Analytics Cloud can work together.

In Part 2, we will be looking at how to combine data from SAP BW bridge and SAP Datasphere.

Introduction to SAP BW bridge for SAP Datasphere

SAP BW bridge is the latest feature to be released for SAP Datasphere. The main benefit is being able to leverage existing on-premise designs in SAP BW, while also having access to the latest cloud-based functionality in SAP Datasphere. For a detailed breakdown, please head over to the Overview and Technical Deep Dive blog.

Pre-requisites

In the following section, we will be using an SAP Datasphere tenant with SAP BW bridge.

Part 2: Combining Data coming from SAP BW bridge and SAP Datasphere

Step 1: Select the correct space.

Ensure that you have selected the correct space before proceeding to the next steps. The "Space" you are looking for should be of Space Type: SAP BW bridge as seen below

SAP Datasphere: Space - bridge

For comparison, a normal space created in SAP Datasphere will have Space Type: SAP Datasphere

Step 2: Import Table

In the "Data Builder" App, select "Import Remote Table"

Step 3: Select Connection

Ensure you have the right connection to your BW bridge selected.

Step 4: Select Remote Table

Browse your Info Areas for your table of choice and go to "Next Step"

In this example, we are using the ADSO CMCS12 - CM CS: Service Notification - Items (2LIS_18_IOITEM)

Step 5: Confirm Remote Table

Confirm your table is in the "Ready for Import" tab before selecting "Import and Deploy". If your table has been imported previously, it will be listed in the "Already in the Repository" and will not be imported again.

Once your import is successful, you will see the Import Status as "Import Successful"

Step 6: Review New Table

Head back to the main Data Builder tab and we see that our newly imported table is listed as deployed.

You can explore the structure of the table that was imported by selecting the newly imported table.

Step 7: Sharing Table (Optional)

If you would like to share this table with another space, you can do so by selecting the "Share", followed by the space you would like to share this table with.

This will not copy the table but instead make it visible to other spaces in SAP Datasphere.

 Helpful Information

    • Sharing your table to another space will not create a copy. It only makes your table visible to other spaces

    • The BW bridge space only allows remote tables from BW bridge. If you would like to combine data from flat files or other source systems, they will need to be created in different spaces.

    • This is the reason for sharing to different spaces and a recommended design approach to ensure you are not only connected to a specific view
