A #Hack2Build initiative from SAP Co-Innovation Lab

EASE THE MIGRATION JOURNEY TO THE CLOUD

The need for migration tools to accelerate SAP customers in their journey to the cloud was the paramount reason to run this initiative. What better way than to jump-start with our partners who are highly specialized in such integration topics. The SAP Co-Innovation Lab in cooperation with SAP Process Integration, SAP Process Orchestration and SAP Integration suite product teams and the Partner Readiness team themed  the challenge to build a migration tool. The challenge outlined a working prototype to be built in 2 weeks on how to “Build a tool to successfully migrate/upgrade to SAP Integration suite from SAP PI/PO”. The event was held virtually from 17th till 31st May 2021.

INNOVATE WITH PARTNERS

SAP Co-Innovation Lab has been instrumental in conceiving and executing virtual hackathon events in the past year on several topics under the umbrella initiative called #Hack2Build. You might be interested to know that more than 60 partner companies have participated in several #Hack2Build events. #Hack2Build is an event series that takes the creativity and speed of a hackathon to the next level by creating a minimal viable solution offering in terms of an application, accelerator, or solution package. For details, do refer to the events page. https://events.sap.com/hack2build/en/home

THE OUTCOME OF #HACK2BUILD

7 Partners demonstrated their creative ideas on how customers would benefit from their innovative migration tool concepts.

37 experts  joined  across 5 countries spanning Denmark, Spain, Germany, USA and India, participated in this initiative: AtosAgilitaFigafHCLInetumInfosysINT4

THE POWER OF COLLABORATION

It was an amazing collaboration across SAP teams and the partners to discuss the concepts, validating their architecture, product and roadmap queries and analyzing their business plans as part of the prototype phase. Within 2 weeks, the partners were able to showcase their innovations to esteemed panel of judges.

THE #HACK2BUILD -WINNERS OF THE TOOL CHALLENGE

Here, we highlight the 3 Winning partner solutions.

Figaf, as the Winner, demonstrated a ‘PI to CPI migration tool’. Team Figaf was able to generate a Cloud Integration (CPI) iflow from an Integrated Configuration Object (ICO) with multiply receivers each with different Interfaces including conditions. Figaf showed a way to migrate message mappings with Function Libraries. The tool prototyped creates a Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) diagram which is needed for the CPI to work.  Figaf has outlined their migration automation tool in detail in their recent blog

You can do a preview of the function here. https://youtu.be/_96VOPzIiEA

INT4 as the first runner-up, developed IFMT (InterFace Migration Tool) which allows migration of certain Integration Configurations from SAP Process Orchestration (SAP PO) to SAP Integration Suite Integration Flows.

Some of the features include: message mapping migration with source and target messages, channel configuration details (IDOC, HTTP, REST, SOAP),XSLT mappings, synchronous configuration with request and response mappings and automated proposals for predelivered SAP IS content. IMFT prototyped was based on SAP Business Technology Platform with Fiori User Interface and  using InT4 IFTT, an automated testing tool specifically for SAP application interfaces.

INT4 also showed some cool additional features like Migration Complexity Estimator (MCE) - which details which parts of the  SAP Process Orchestration Integrated configuration object (ICO) can or cannot be migrated and few others.

HCL was the second runner-up, who built a migration tool that utilizes SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (SAP Intelligent RPA)  to extract information from SAP Process Integration (PI) /SAP Process Orchestration (PO) systems and to be included in Cloud Integration (CPI)-CPI flows to accelerate the migration to the  SAP Business Technology Platform. The solution uses the template-based migration approach for sender/receiver adapter & updates the .flw file based on mapping rules defined in the rule book. HCL demonstrated a use case that covers SOAP sender & receiver adapter. The intelligent bot takes the ICO scenario as input & migrates the objects automatically using a template-based approach.
