One of SAP’s unique value propositions has always been the fact that SAP is able to run business processes integrated end-to-end. While SAP’s acquisition of various cloud solutions strengthened this further, they are often based on different technology stacks.

In recent times, the importance of integration has significantly grown as a strategic topic for intelligent enterprises. SAP has always recognized this and has been consistently delivering guidance for technological and strategic adoption of its integration solutions.

In February 2020, the first version of Intelligent Enterprises Are Integrated Enterprises – SAP’s Integration Plan in the Cloud was publishedThe initial release of this roadmap for integration in the cloud and its updates (current version of September 2020) were accompanied by the blogs Integration in the Cloud: SAP’s Way Forward and Integration Makes All the Difference: An Update to Our Integration Roadmap in the Cloud by SAP’s CEO, Christian Klein.

The Integration Plan in the Cloud includes descriptions of our suite qualities and provides timelines for them with respect to our key processes for the Intelligent Enterprise – Recruit to Retire, Lead to Cash, Design to Operate, and Source to Pay. It helps our customers define a roadmap for their transition to an intelligent enterprise.

As announced in the TechEd News Guide, we have also delivered an update to the integration guidelinesIn 2017 SAP published a description of SAP’s long-term vision for integration. Since SAPPHIRE 2018, a CIO Guide, “Process and Data Integration in Hybrid Landscapes” has provided detailed guidance based on the existing technology portfolio.

This year’s update splits this CIO Guide in two documents with different levels of information:

  1. The CIO Guide: SAP Hybrid Platform for the Intelligent Enterprise is a management abstract for the Integration Architecture Guide (see 2), with a focus on our Integration Platform - SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite. It is targeted at executive management, such as CTOs, Heads of Enterprise Architecture, and CIOs.

  2. The Integration Architecture Guide for Cloud and Hybrid landscapes is based on SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology. It provides a deep dive into integration styles and includes SAP technology recommendations for the process-, data-, user-, and analytics-centric integration patterns. Its target group are enterprise and integration architects.

The second guide provides detailed guidelines for adopting integration strategies that ultimately help customers run integrated scenarios in their intelligent suite. Both guides closely relate to the vision outlined in Jürgen Müller’s (SAP’s Chief Technology Officer) blog How SAP Supports Hybrid Integration Scenarios for the Intelligent EnterpriseIn addition, the blog Ultimately, integration enables business innovation by Thomas Saueressig, member of the SAP Executive Boardemphasizes the increased importance of integrated processes and how these are enabled by the SAP Business Technology Platform. The blog drives home the fact that integration empowers business innovation and takes a closer look at each of the end-to-end business processes – Recruit to Retire, Lead to Cash, Design to Operate, and Source to Pay.

Finally, our SAP Integration Solution Advisory Methodology can help you with your individual integration strategy. We are eager to hear from you how your integration journey is evolving and how SAP can help you improve it even further!
