Today's HCP highlights included live executive sessions on HCP, dozens of HCP-related educational sessions run by dedicated HCP colleagues, sessions from non-SAP folks who are valued community members active in HCP, much show floor activity... and the DemoJam.
In the morning, SAP Mentor Simon Kemp interviewed Sam Yen in a discussion about SAP's Ux evolution.
"At SAP we've got hundreds of thousands of transactions," said Sam. "How do you scale that user experience? Use technology as a way to augment and scale design. We're talking Ux as a Service," he continued, introducing BUILD. "Tools like Splash and BUILD are targeted to empower IT to bring design into the organization. Splash is discovery, BUILD is for prototyping. And then Web IDE and all the other UI technologies bring it all together." And all of this is made possible because of HCP.

Tanja Rueckert and Diane Fanelli then discussed Internet of Things, in the Live Studio. IoT is also made possible by HCP via IoT Services. Tanja cited her interest in developing the next steps in digital transformation together with our customers - while at the same time taking security seriously as we do at SAP. She also discussed how IoT is a huge driver of HANA Vora because of the sheer quantity of data it involves.
In another TechEd LIVE session, SAP Mentor Dick Hirsch interviewed Chief Product Expert Dennis Schwerer on hybris as a Service (also made possible by HCP on Cloud Foundry). With microservices provided in the hybris world, Dennis said, you can "stitch together many components for everything you need to commercialize apps with success," including tax services, localization services, even community components which are essential for commercial success in today's digital economy.

Finally, and in the last of the HCP-related TechEd LIVE sessions, Prakash Darji and Dan Lahl came together to discuss "Why HCP and Why Now?"
"We play in all aspects of cloud," IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, said Prakash. As for PaaS, with HCP, he continued, "We have the tech things most providers have. But we don't stop there. That's where we start. SAP helps you innovate new applications but also around your core. And who besides SAP is going to help you solve real business problems?" They talked about Hamburg Port Authority on IoT as an example.

The team was of course busy with dozens of often standing-room-only sessions and on the show floor as well.
And then there was DemoJam. TechEd is a great forum for executives and SAP colleagues to present about SAP, but it's also for the grassroots. These were all self-assembled teams from within the SAP community, and I was very pleased to recognize that three people on the six DemoJam finalist teams were respected SAP Community members who were nominated by their peers to deliver community sessions at TechEd. Not only that, but most if not all of the teams relied on HCP to make it to the finals.
The teams had only 32 hours to build healthcare-related solutions. Clearly HCP was an asset to get to production quickly.
The winner: S.M.I.L.E. by Team Keytree - Nic Doodson and Will Powell. Amazing what can be done in 32 hours, with real sensors, Arduino boards, HCP, and probably also great degree of coding (and nary a doctor in the house). The finalists all deserve our praise and a mention of honor!
