Not in Las Vegas for TechEd this week? In Sin City and desperate for a refresher of the day’s HCP highlights – and a primer on what to see tomorrow? We’ve got it here. Read on for Monday’s wrap plus Tuesday’s top picks and how to find your HCP friends everywhere, (almost) all the time.
TechEd didn’t start today. InnoJam began Saturday evening with a reception, then continued with several eager teams coding all day long on Sunday. By 3pm today, InnoJam had wrapped up and six teams were proclaimed finalists who get to take the DemoJam stage on Wednesday. I have it on good authority that three out of those six teams relied on HCP for their success. You’ll have to be sure to tune in on Wednesday at 8pm for the DemoJam to see the proof.
HCP was also big during today’s ASUG pre-conference sessions. An entire half-day of premium ASUG content was dedicated to SAP’s IoT approach including a deep-dive on IoT Services on HCP. The session was called Making the IoT Real: What You Need to Do to Develop -- and Deliver -- Your IoT Strategy and four HCP product managers were live with the group walking through all the details.
Following the pre-conferences, Steve Lucas, global president of SAP Platform Solutions Group, was the entertainer, emcee, and tech visionary for the evening’s welcome keynote (if you missed it, catch the replay here within 24 hours). His talk extolled the digital economy and introduced the concept of the “digital core,” which he defined as the “next-generation enterprise compute platform, coupled with cognitive business applications, delivering analytic insight to operate your completely connected business.”
Several guests joined him on stage including Jim McKelvey (co-founder of Square -- and glass-blower), Stefan Sigg (“the genius behind Cloud for Analytics” – by the way, built on HCP), Bluefin visionary and SAP Mentor John Appleby, several other customers and partners, and an Amazon Echo device (named Alexa), which was fielding questions and sparring with Steve. This device is integrated with HCP and Cloud for Customer, and you can find it, of course, on Amazon today.
HCP was woven through the entire keynote, with Lucas nailing it several times. “The HANA Cloud Platform has taken off like a rocket thanks to you… If you want to build an app today, you can use HCP,” he said.
