There are more mobile devices on the planet than people. Enterprises of all sizes are using mobile solutions to grow their businesses -- and people are using them to overcome challenges.

The airline industry, for example, is equipping cabin crews with mobile devices to enhance the passenger experience with faster and more personalized service. Equipping ground crews allows quicker response time for dealing with quality and safety issues. And airlines can extend their reach to passengers through consumer applications, creating new touchpoints and a new loyalty paradigm.

Enterprises in all industries recognize that mobile technology is a key enabler for achieving business success, yet security remains a big challenge. How is it possible to secure not only company-owned and employee-owned devices, but also corporate apps and content within an organization?

The answer to this challenge is enterprise mobility management (EMM) software that addresses security from all data entry points -- apps, content and devices -- with a comprehensive mobile security strategy.

With the evolution of mobile devices and introduction of new security techniques, we're seeing companies expand their initial approach of managing devices to include application-level security. Think about the application as “the new endpoint.” In addition to managing the settings on a piece of hardware, you can inject code directly into an application to add a management and security layer. We recently introduced a new solution, SAP Mobile App Protection by Mocana, to add this strong capability to our mobile security portfolio.

IDC continues to site SAP as Mobile Market Leader in the Mobile Enterprise Management software market. Gartner also positioned SAP as a leader in its Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management (MDM) report and Magic Quadrant for Mobile Application Development Platforms (MADP). Customers are also on board. HP uses SAP Afaria to manage 180,000 mobile devices, and Nuvasive relies on SAP Afaria to manage employee- and corporate-owned devices in the highly regulated healthcare industry.

These powerful endorsements and ongoing expansion of the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio certainly make my job as head of Worldwide Mobile Sales & Solutions for SAP all the more exciting. What an incredible head start in a new job!
