If you have visited the IBM developerWorks site for SAP on IBM i recently, you likely noticed a banner at the top of the page saying that "The developerWorks Connections platform will be sunset on December 31, 2019. On January 1, 2020, this wiki will no longer be available." Never fear though, the information about SAP that the IBM development team has been sharing there for years has been relocated to a new home.
The new page can be found by using a short URL,
http://ibm.biz/ibmi-sap or by the longer and far less intuitive URL
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1111191. While format is no longer a wiki consisting of a number of short web pages, we think customers may find the new format easier to read in full. If the new formatting seems familiar, it is because our new site is using the same infrastructure and tooling as is used to build our recommended PTF lists for each IBM i release.
At the new site we started with the latest news at the top of the page. There are links to the newest entries in the SAP on IBM i blog, to the newsletter from the IBM Lab Services team and to information about upcoming events. You'll also find links to the recommended IBM i PTFs by release, information about our Lab Services team, how to get assistance with sizing, workload analysis tools, special offerings for IBM Power hardware, customer references, various technical references, presentation materials from recent SAP on IBM i Summit events, and other topics of interest to the SAP on IBM i community.
Some advantages of having our new page included within the Support section of the ibm.com web site is that we still have a lot of freedom to determine what content appears on the page and that we can still make updates whenever necessary. Another advantage of our new home is the optional notification support. If you haven't yet done so, I would recommend enrolling in "My Notifications" to receive email when there are important changes to IBM i topical pages in Support. You can select whether you would like to be notified of changes on a daily or weekly basis. As of right now you would get them for all "IBM i" updates that are marked for notification when they are updated. Since a number of IBM i developerWorks teams are moving to the Support infrastructure, there may be more updates than usual for the next few weeks, but it should be a manageable number - and they all come in a single email so your inbox will not be flooded, especially if you choose to only be notified once a week of changes. I have been using this service myself for several years to get a weekly email about IBM i updates and it's been a good reminder, especially when new cumulative PTFs or important security PTFs become available. One should note that not every update is marked to be included for notifications - it is up to the author to decide on an individual basis.
If you are interested in enrolling in IBM's "My notifications", you can do it from the new page. You will find several pull-down menus at the top of the page. Under "Other", you'll find an entry called "My Notifications". Use (or create) your IBM id, then use the "Product lookup" box to find and subscribe to the IBM i releases and whatever other topics you are interested in. Don't forget to use the "Delivery Preferences" button at the upper right part of the page to choose your preferred delivery frequency and format before you log out.
