Primarily, the SAP Fiori launchpad is the entry point to Fiori apps. First of all, the launchpad displays various tiles. Tiles are rectangular objects that provide access to applications. Which tiles are displayed on a user’s entry page depends on the user’s role. Depending on the role, the user can choose from a wide choice of ready-to-use tiles from the tile catalog as part of the launchpad personalization.

With the SAP Lumira Server 1.17 release we also offer Lumira apps for Fiori. You can manage your SAP Lumira Server stories in SAP Fiori. For example you can view and bookmark stories using personalized filters or share stories and their underlying datasets with other SAP HANA roles.

Fiori can be deployed on a SAP HANA itself or on an ABAP-based SAP system. In this blog I will focus on the HANA Fiori integration. At this point the ABAP Fiori does contain a subset of the functionality listed here and will be at feature parity with the next release of SAP Fiori.

To access Access the SAP Fiori Launchpad

  • on an SAP HANA system, use this URL: 
    Replace <HOSTNAME> with the name of your SAP HANA server. Replace <INSTANCE> with the number of  the SAP HANA instance that SAP Fiori is deployed on.
  • On an ABAP-based SAP system, use this URL:
    Replace <HOSTNAME> with the name of your ABAP front-end server. Replace <PORT> with the SAP  NetWeaver Gateway port number
    Note: Your administrator has to configure SAP Fiori catalog on an ABAP application server before the SAP Lumira catalog will be available to you. Please see the "To configure the SAP Fiori catalog on an ABAP application server" section of the SAP Lumira Server Installation Guide

How to create a group on the SAP Fiori launch pad

The SAP Fiori launchpad brings together multiple Fiori applications. End users have the ability to organize their frequently used applications by
themselves in groups. You can easily create groups via the Groups menu.

How to add Lumira Server Content to the Fiori Homepage

You can also bring SAP Lumira Server content to the Fiori launch pad. There are 2 tiles available

  • All Story tile will show how many Lumira stories a user has stored on the SAP Lumira Server and provide easy access to the stories.
  • SAP Lumira Server tile is a static tile that will launch the Lumira Server Launchpad in a new window. As HANA Fiori and Lumira Server are on the same machine there is no configuration needed and users will have SSO in place when moving from the Fiori launchpad to SAP Lumira Server. For ABAP-based Fiori there is additional configuration required.

  1. To navigate to the SAP Lumira catalog and add the two tiles to your homepage open the Fiori catalog
  2. Select the SAP Lumira catalog
  3. The SAP Lumira Catalog contains of two tiles mentioned above
  4. Drag and drop the tiles in to the My Home group (or any other group) or alternatively check the + sign under the tiles, which will also add it to the My Home group.
  5. Use the back button to navigate back to the homepage
  6. You can now see the 2 tiles on the homepage. Again these tiles can be merged in groups with your other Fiori applications. The all story tile indicates that there are a total of 7 Lumira stories on Lumira Server

How to view and bookmark Lumira stories in SAP Fiori Launchpad

From the SAP Fiori launchpad home page you can open the Lumira Server story listing application. In the listing you can search for a story, sort the list and filter. You can also view who a story was shared with and if rights permit you can share the story with others. You can also view and bookmark with filters any story.

  1. Click on the All Stories tile, this will open the story listing application. Here you can see a list of stories, when they were created and their description as well as a preview of the visualizations contained in the story. The listing application provides searching, sorting and filtering capabilities.
  2. From within the story listing  open a story by selecting it and pressing Open at the bottom right of the screen
  3. The SAP Lumira Server story will now open directly within the SAP Fiori launchpad. You have the same ability to navigate through the stories pages and filters as you got in SAP Lumira Server Launchpad.
  4. In my example assume you are responsible to for the Building business unit and need to access this report on a regular basis. Hence you want to filter the data based on the Building business unit and bookmark the filtered story to your homepage. Filter the story like and add it as a tile to you homepage via the “Save as Tile” menu at the bottom right corner
  5. A dialog will pop open, you can specify a subtitle and additional information. In my example I placed Subtitle:  Business Unit: Building
  6. Press OK
  7. Use the Home icon to navigate back to the homepage
  8. You can now see the story tile in the launch pad under My Home
  9. You can drag and drop the tile into the any group you have created to organize your launchpad
  10. Assume you log into the launch pad at a different day, you can now click on the story tile and launch the story directly from your homepage filtered down to the Business Unit: Building .

This bookmarking capability allows you to bring the most important stories to your homepage, have them organized into different groups and display them together with other Fiori apps that you regularly access.

How to share a Lumira story via the Fiori launchpad

Using the Fiori launch pad you can also view which dataset is related to a story and share datasets and stories with other HANA roles (assuming you have the rights to do so)

  1. From the Fiori Launchpad home page, open the SAP Lumira Server story listing. Select a story and navigate to the related tab in order to see which dataset is related to the story
  2. To get more information about the dataset click the > button beside the dataset
  3. You can see that this dataset has not been shared. In addition you can see other information such as modified date and owner. You can either share the dataset directly by  clicking the edit button or share it when sharing the story.
  4. Using the back button move back into the document listing
  5. To share the story you have to edit the properties of the story. (Make sure you are back in the story listing page and not viewing the dataset) Press the Edit button at the bottom of the screen
  6. In edit mode you can also change the name and description. To share it with others press the Add Role button
  7. In the next screen select the role you want to share with and press the OK button
  8. Nothing will be shared until you press the same button
  9. As the dataset had not been shared yet, you will be prompted to also share the dataset with that role. You have to give access to the dataset when sharing the story. Press the Continue button.
  10. Back in the Access tab you can see that shared role is now been listed

Via the same Access tab and editing of the story you also have the ability to remove roles. Removing a role from a story does not remove the role form the dataset. If  you wish to remove a role from a dataset you can do so via the Related tab.

The story listing application also allows you to delete a story (assuming you have the rights for it).

How to create content categories for Lumira Server stories

This section applies to SAP Lumira Server 1.23 or above. Using the Fiori launch pad you can also create content categories based of the naming convention of your stories. These category tiles can then be added to your homepage, opening the tile will show you a list of all stories belonging to this category.

  1. From the story listing view use the search bar to filter your stories based on a key word in the name. In this example, we enter “HR” as the key word.
  2. The search returns all stories that have “HR” in their titles.  Click the “Group” icon at the bottom of the page.

  3. This will save your search results as a new tile on your homepage. In the pop up dialog, enter a name for your new catalog, and click “Create Tile”.  In this example, we enter “My HR Stories”. Note the group remembers “HR” as the key word.
  4. Go back to your home page and refresh the page, you will see the newly created tile “My HR Stories”. The number on the tile indicates how many stories exists that meet the search criteria. The tile will refresh automatically in certain time intervals.
  5. Click on the newly create tile to show the search results again. Then, you can create a subgroup by entering another key word and search within the given list.
