Right after an eventful field kick-of meeting (FKOM) in the mid of January I had the pleasure to join an SAP InnoJam in Barcelona, hosted by the SAP University Alliance.
With around 50 participants the event had a decent number of students with a broad set of know-how in business and technology. Starting on February 28 the event went until February 30th. During this time the students started - as usual - with a design thinking exercise and learned how to use the design thinking principles in the challenge they had to tackle: to think about a new travel experience in the city.
The 5 teams used SAP HANA Cloud Platform to create and deploy apps to the cloud and therefore make it accessible to everybody just while being at the event.
The solutions they presented tackled topics like a bike dating app or an app to help you in the first steps to get to know a person while you are commuting from on place to another. Or also apps that help with traffic management.
At the end all teams where able to present an up-and-running app and the winners will present their prototypes at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 22-25, 2016.
I've also learned a lot during the event. The most interesting learning: I need to keep up with the pace of how students use the different types of mobile apps. For these students a mobile phone is a natural part of their way to experience the world they are living in. And it's not just for finding the best and fastest way from point A to point B. It goes as far as to use such devices to get to know and date new and interesting people.
I can only recommend to young students to visit one of the many opportunities to join an SAP InnoJam. You'll love it!
Best,
Rui
