Introduction
In the upcoming weeks, we will be posting new videos to the
SAP HANA Academy to show new features and functionality introduced with
SAP HANA 2.0 Support Package Stack (SPS) 02.
The topic of this blog is
application lifecycle management (ALM).
For the previous version of this blog, see

What's New?
Integration of XSA ALM in SAP HANA Cockpit
Not really a new feature, to be fair, we already showed the XSA ALM cockpit integration in the
ALM What's New blog for SPS 01, but as it is explicitly mentioned in the SPS 02 release notes, I will also mention it here again.
Installing and updating XSA components and products using the app is documented in the Administration Guide
For ALM, a dedicated guide is available
For those new to the topic, you might find the following document of interest
MTA Deployment Extension Descriptor File Size and Syntax Check
The optional MTA deployment extension description file contains system-specifc details unknown until deployment time, e.g. proxy information, user-provided service credentials, memory requirements. For more information, see
New in SPS 02 is that both the file size and the syntax of the file are verified before execution. If the file is too big or if the syntax is incorrect, the system will not start the installation process.
Here we have an example as used in the
SAP HANA Interactive Education sample app from Github.
Duh? Dih!
An additional command has been added to display the history of installation and uninstallation processes: display-installation-history with alias dih.
xs dih
