Well, it’s just about time for my annual pilgrimage to SAP TechEd Las Vegas.  This year’s TechEd is bigger than ever, featuring more than 600 sessions within seven different tracks. Even though I’ve been to Tech Ed several times before, I always look forward to this wonderful event every year. In honor of my third Tech Ed, I’m going to present my top three reasons why I am excited about attending TechEd.

Reason 1: A conference for organizations and users

There is no better event that aligns the interests of organizations that run SAP and individuals that use SAP. This alignment results in an amazing dynamic and diversity in topics TechEd. From hands-on workshops where attendees can receive in-depth training relating to topics they use in their day to day roles, to product road maps for solutions deployed by their organization, TechEd is the perfect balance of practical application and the future. This marriage of benefit for both SAP organizations and SAP users creates an incredible energy at TechEd. (Looking for a product map session to check out? How about Tom Reiss SAP Fiori roadmap session, UX818.)

Reason 2: The access to knowledge

There are amazing sessions provided by SAP employees and partners, the source of the energy explained in Reason 1. This year’s User Experience track is no exception. I would encourage everyone to check out Peter Spielvogel session on low code development tools. I believe low code technology, and the benefits that rapid deployment offers large organizations, are not talked about enough when it comes to enterprise tech.  Peter will show how SAP Fiori Elements gives enterprise development teams the ability to deploy high quality applications faster than ever.

Reason 3: Shake the future

While I am quite partial to the User Experience track, I plan on checking out some of the Next Gen Data Management and AI sessions. I’m fascinated by the breadth of impact AI will have on enterprise software. From supply chain, to call centers, to social media monitoring that will influence (or even direct) customer purchases, AI will be a staple of enterprise software in the near term. McKinsey & Co. estimates that, “deep learning techniques could enable up to $6 trillion in value annually.”  With a market size that large, there’s no way I can pass up attending these sessions.

If you want more reasons to be excited for SAP TechEd, check out @SAP_Designs on twitter. I will be manning this account live from Las Vegas and posting lots of great TechEd content. Keep an eye out for my one reason per day why TechEd is the best SAP event of the year.

Give it a follow, and I’ll see you in Las Vegas.
