The Fiori user experience is one of the reasons why customers love S/4 HANA. Now, customers expect that partner solutions that extend SAP S/4HANA will follow the same design principles. To enable this, SAP set up a series of workshops with SAP S/4HANA partners in which partners learn more about SAP Fiori and get help with the design and the development of SAP Fiori apps.

From Oct 26 to Oct 30, we held the first in a series of SAP Fiori workshops with SAP S/4HANA partners. We invited representatives from HiT Software, Greenlight, Knoa, NextLabs, and Utopia to Palo Alto to discuss how existing Business Suite Extensions can be migrated to SAP Fiori.

Partner representatives with Bjoern Dederichs, Daniel Heffter, Nivi Tepliz, Sharon Agam, and Stephan Lange from SAP

For the first day and a half, the focus was on the design. SAP designers introduced the partners to the SAP Fiori design principles and the partner participants learned how traditional functional transactions can be split into smaller role-based and action-driven apps. SAP designers then supported the partners with the prototyping of apps. The result of this work were high-fidelity app mockups.

Working on the design

For the remaining two and a half days of the workshop, the focus was on how to develop real apps based on the mockups. Training sessions about SAP Web IDE on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Platform, SAP UI5, and on how to create oData services using CDS views. This provided the participants with the knowledge to start development. Experienced SAP development experts assisted the participants during the development phase.

Partners develop Fiori apps assisted by SAP experts

Each team implemented an app end-to-end from the persistency to the SAP UI5 front-end, and demonstrated the results in front of all the participants.

Demonstrating the achievements of the workshop

The participants produced nice running prototypes, and are now enabled to finish the implementation of a productive app.
