For over twenty years, Red Hat and SAP have partnered to offer the best of both worlds to customers - the rock solid foundation of SAP’s industry standard ERP business systems and software along with Red Hat’s innovative open source technologies. The fruit of this two-decade partnership has produced an extensive and highly technical portfolio that encompasses automation, integration and alignment. Red Hat is positioned second to none when it comes to spearheading the narrative of digital transformation and reshaping the business landscape, and offers many tools and functions that enable rapid system provisioning, backed by a world-class team of dedicated experts for the deployment and empowerment of Red Hat and SAP capabilities.

With a deadline of 2027 approaching for all SAP customers to be on S/4HANA, it’s important that customers begin their adoption journey as soon as possible. For many customers, this journey will involve migrating to a new database (SAP HANA), which means new infrastructure to support the workload. While this journey may seem daunting, Red Hat’s product portfolio helps enable customers to migrate smoothly and effectively using automation, and provide an easily consumable management plan for their SAP systems.

For this blog post series, our goal will be to achieve one-button provisioning and installation of a new SAP S/4HANA SID. To achieve this, we’ll be using several different products in the Red Hat portfolio, mainly Red Hat Satellite for provisioning and lifecycle management, and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform for automation and orchestration. Once our process is built, our end consumers will interact directly with the Ansible Automation Platform, creating an easy to consume method of provisioning aspects of an SAP landscape.

Using our new provisioning process, we’ll provision three systems: two systems to run SAP HANA, and one system to be our SAP application server. These systems will be provisioned according to best practices developed by Red Hat and SAP, and will be automatically registered to Red Hat Insights for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for more visibility into the health of the systems while enabling fast remediation of vulnerabilities and misconfigurations that may affect performance.

Stay tuned for Part 2: Curating Content with Red Hat Satellite.
