In a recent keynote presentation, SAP’s co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe used an interesting analogy that compared nature to business. In uncovering the secrets to winning, he suggests that the key is being better and more adaptable than the competition. Taking a cue from nature, where speed and response time determine survival, when it comes to businesses and technology, early adopters often have the advantage – easily taking market share from other competitors who may be more late in adapting to the new landscape.
We see it everywhere – technology has been changing the way we conduct our daily tasks, how we structure our days, manage our relationships…simply put, it has changed and will continue to change the way we live.
This change has extended far beyond personal survival into the enterprise landscape to consumer technology and mobile technology in particular. As I have written the past, work is no longer a place to go to, it is something that can be done anywhere – whether it is on a bus, a train, a plane, at home or in a hotel room at a conference halfway across the world.
The introduction of consumer technology, particularly through mobile devices, has extended the opportunities for enterprises and has essentially transformed the way enterprises work. Such is the main theme covered by the CITE Conference and Expo. This year’s event features sessions and discussion on the relevance of consumer technologies in the enterprise. The Consumerization of IT in the Enterprise (CITE) Conference brings together IT professionals and business executives who are interested in embracing the use of consumer technologies, transforming the way their enterprises work. CITE will highlight topics which include: the Internet of Things, Social Enterprise, the Organization of the Future, Tablets and Corporate Devices, Mobile Apps and the User Experience – all topics that are priorities for SAP and our customers.
SAP is a sponsor of this year’s conference and will be hosting a speaking session centered around providing an executive action plan for adopting mobility in any enterprise. This interactive expert panel moderated by SAP’s JP Finnell includes Lopez Research’s Maribel Lopez and Sanofi-Aventis’ Brian Katz. The panel is largely based upon a whitepaper written by Lopez Research for SAP entitled, “Navigating the New Mobile World: An Executive Action Plan for Adopting Mobility.” In this paper, the different stages of mobile adoption are discussed as well as providing best practices to guide enterprises in each stage of adoption.
Mobility is no longer limited to apps. Mobility transforms enterprises and presents a new way of doing business. The mobile opportunity has the potential to elevate enterprises and give them an edge in the changing landscape…the key is for executives and decision makers to open their minds to these new horizons. We understand that this is not an easy decision to make – but SAP, together with the other presenters at the CITE Conference and Expo are preparing to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to take that next step.
In his keynote presentation, Jim Hagemann Snabe went on to say that in business, evolution is not random. Instead, “it is deliberate, led by companies who have the guts to define the future.”
